Life has taken me all over the UK, registering with GP surgeries from Scotland to the south coast, and I can honestly say Gold Street is your average GP practice. Nothing awful, but nothing exceptional. I've got no problems with the medical staff at all. There's a real range of GP personalities, from brusque and efficient to bubbly and fun. They're all professional though. The advice I've been given has always been sound and helpful, and if I've needed referral to Addenbrooke's, they've arranged it promptly. I have quite a rare skin condition, and the doctors are always open to listening to me and learning about it when it flares up. If they don't know what to do, they're honest about it and we work together to solve it. I've never felt I've walked away without a solution.I'd give them five stars, if getting an appointment wasn't such a nightmare. For example, I'm writing this review in January 2019. I've got shoulder spasms, and I'd like it checked out. The next available appointment is March 15th, six weeks away. It's not Gold Street's fault though - there just aren't enough surgeries to serve a town this size. It would be nice to see them be a bit more proactive and offer later appointments, or maybe even weekend surgeries like some of the other practices I've been registered with. TL;DR? Good surgery, good staff, but be prepared to wait some time if you want an appointment.
Interview process for Gold Street reception:Are you able to diagnose patients over the phone with 0 medical training? YesAre you unhelpful, rude and have an obnoxious telephone manner?YesYouve got the job.
Alison who is the nurse at Gold Street Surgery is by far the worst nurse I have come across. She is very rude to my parents everytime they see her, she even threw a slip in anger in front of my mum. Also, she was awful at taking blood from my mum. She really hurt her during the injection and was acting as if it was my mum's fault when she found it difficult to take blood from her. No consideration for the patients whatsoever. I really hope this changes.
This is one of the worst surgeries I have even encountered! I rang up saying I needed an appointment to get my results from the referral, then the receptionists said...nothing until middle of April and ring up on the day! yes this was said while I was on the phone and requesting an appointment for today! Absolutely useless! no regard to their patients at all! sounds like their receptionist need to go manners school!
Really impressed with the service provided here. Only been twice, once for myself and once for my son. The staff were really helpful and my son was referred for an xray and seen at the hospital within half an hour. Can't fault them at all.
